Nabors became famous as the bumbling deputy sheriff on "The Andy Griffith Show" and then went on to do his own show, which ran for 5 years. News to me.

He was made deputy in one show maybe others too. The episode that I am thinking of is of a man that Andy shot and this man returned to Mayberry to see Andy. Barney was worried for Andy’s life, so he made Otis and Gomer Deputies. Turned out that this man came to thank andy and give him a rifle as a gift.
