FULL TITLE: Matt Lauer fired from Today: Savannah Guthrie fights back tears while announcing her co-anchor's exit after 'staffer accuses $25million-a-year host of sexual assault during Sochi Olympics' Matt Lauer has been fired from Today after a colleague accused the longtime host of 'inappropriate sexual behavior in the workplace' it was announced on Wednesday.
'This is a sad morning here at Today and NBC News,' said a tearful Savannah Guthrie while revealing the news at the start of the popular morning show.
Guthrie then read the letter that NBC News Chairman Andrew Lack had sent to employees just moments before, which stated that Lauer's alleged offense may not have been an 'isolated incident.'
'We learned this moments ago, just this morning. As you can imagine, we are devastated. And we are still processing all of this,' said Guthrie.
'I will tell you, we do not know more than what I just shared with you. But we will be covering this story, as reporters, as journalists. I'm sure we'll learn more details in the hours and days to come. We promise to share that with you.'
Lauer exits as the longest-running morning show anchor and the highest paid, taking home an annual salary of $25million prior to his termination.
It is being reported by Page Six that it was an NBC staffer working at the Sochi Olympics in 2014 who came forward, telling the network she had been sexually assaulted by Lauer. An initial report it was Rio in 2016 has been updated.

So just to be clear woman wanted so desperately to be a part of the good ole boys club and when they finally got there all they wanted to do was change the “corrosive culture” they found there. They demanded rules be put in place to protect the “equal” sex from their “equals”. Men all over the country are starring at the ground right now for fear of inadvertently sexually harassing an equal. Sure, it’s fun to mock the Matt Laurer’s of the world but this is going to be absolutely horrible in the long run. Is no one going to say it? Does everyone know what needs to be said?
Interesting how stuff like this has been “open secrets” for decades (ex.: Clintons practically flaunted it), yet suddenly it’s all “OMGWTFBBQ” as if nobody knew. Is it really a matter of “an idea whose time has come” (i.e.: fire the abusers), or is it somehow orchestrated (assure accusers of personal safety, to set up framework to derail someone particularly powerful)? Just wondering; I usually despise conspiracy theories but figure it’s worth at least a consideration here.
Maybe she’s crying because she didn’t get any of his attention...................;^)

She also mentioned the victim and any other possible victims. I think Savannah handled her announcement in as dignified manner as she could. I'm no lover of the alphabets, but I can't find any fault with what she said.
