From the article, below is a picture of the USS Cole. THe whole thing doesn't look very stable in heavy seas.

But...but...there’s a heavy cable on the bow of the Cole holding it in place. >:)
Of course the seas will stay flat calm for the duration.

I am glad they are repairing her. Repairing ships is a good exercise in real world scenarios. During WWII that ship would have already been repaired and back in the fight.

Ummm... notice the giant stanchions located about 1/3 the way from bow & stern? Also, there appear to be a number of short blocks under the hull. These are probably welded to both the USS Cole and the MV Blue Marlin.

In a “Big” War all of these ships will be the first to go. With the age of satellites they cannot hide. And the missiles being built now could take them out in mere minutes. WWIII will not be fought with surface ships for very long. Anyone serving on them will be sitting ducks IMHO.

During WWII that ship would have already been repaired and back in the fight. The ship on which I served in the early 60s (USS Vulcan, AR-5) did exactly that. It was noted for repairing some of Halsey's damaged fleet, returning them to action.
