President Trump complained Sunday that the father of one of the three UCLA basketball players who were arrested in China for shoplifting had played down his role in winning their release, and that he therefore should not have interceded with China’s president.
“I should have left them in jail!” the president tweeted.
Trump’s tweet drew a quick backlash on social media. Many expressed incredulity that a sitting U.S. president would publicly regret having come to the aid of American citizens being held by an authoritarian government.
Among Trump’s sharper critics was Rep. Adam Schiff, (D-Burbank) who tweeted back, “How can someone in such a big office be so small?

Perhaps the Chinese government will give a pass to all who shoplift from the store. That would be fair payback. Or better yet, maybe they will throw dad in jail for some small infraction that carries a long sentence.
The dad’s tee shirt company was founded in 2016, probably using some of his older son’s NBA signing bonus.
Dads just trying to get some free advertising and street cred for his new company.

There are times Trump needs to shut his pie hole. He did a good thing, the father is a complete A-hole about it, everyone already knows that. Trump didn’t even need to respond.
This is the crap that gets him in trouble with people.

They sort of thanked POTUS when they arrived back from China. Only one of them has welshed on that THANK YOU, via his father. We’ve heard nothing from the other two. They’ve been benched, or worse by UCLA. I’d think current comportment and ‘tude would affect their future re the team.
A worthy post and news-story, but they’re all missing the point:
Why would these 3 elite American athletes overseas think they’d get away with that in the FIRST PLACE..?

Trump haters will suspend reality at a drop of the hat if it means believing something negative about president Trump. Things like this reinforce the fact he is actively putting Americans first even if later they turn out to be losers.
