"Modern Sporting Rifle".
A marketing term, really, thought up by those who advocate for the AR platform as a hunting rifle. Fine by me, honestly. It makes a lot of sense, although it does limit one's choice of cartridges to those that can be accommodated by the AR action, which may or may not be a problem. (In which case, the obvious upgrade would be to an AR-10 platform.)
Have fun, guys, just please don't throw those old bolt guns in the trash. I'll take them if you don't want them.

Remember, laws proposed in the past have a ‘catch all” praise that goes something like this.
‘A rifle designed for sporting use may not be considered a “sporting rifle” by this law’
This was designed to sweep up semi-auto rifles used in various military style sporting competitions.
For a kid who grew up in Wisconsin in the 50s and 60s, where I had the choice of two calibers, .22 for small game and 30-30 for big game, I really like the idea of the AR-15 with changeable uppers. The .300 Blackout has slightly better ballistics than the 30-30 and the 5.56 works great on armed Liberals.
