I wonder if caffeine robs your body of magnesium and other electrolytes that can cause muscle aches....plus vit D...

I just hate it when I’m forced to get new software. It takes forever to be able to use it. Just when I am no longer incompetent, I am usually forced to get new software and start all over. Yuk.

I made these tonight using peanut butter:

https://www.sugarfreemom.com/recipes/low-carb-paleo-english-muffins-grain-free-gluten-free/

Absolutely wonderful. I made mine in little pyrex bowls. Lots of recipes on that site. I toasted the halves under the broiler and then put a pat of butter on them.

I just read a study that said even with decaffeinated coffee you still get all the health benefits coffee has to offer.

If caffeine doesn’t affect you that way then more power to you.

Don’t know what the weird hours are about.

Sometimes I get really sleepy until about ten pm.

It’s like if I stay awake just a little too long I’m awake half the night.

Also get really sleepy right after eating. I read that that’s because your body focuses all the energy on digesting the food so it pulls resources from the extremities and brings them to your gut making you cold and sleepy.

That’s an interesting thought cherry.

It makes a lot of sense.

Yes, I always order way too much when the seed catalog arrives. The low last night was 14F.

I treated myself to the BIG Baker Seeds catalog this year and have been amusing myself with the pretty pictures. I think next year I’m going to try a modified Three Sisters approach with amaranth instead of corn as the central support and see how that does. And as usual, the tomato plans are spiraling rapidly out of control...I need at least two orange, three purple, four cherries plus a bunch of reds for fresh eating. At least.

My outside bucket “garden” is pretty much done except for one little Purslane sprout I planted in an empty unused bucket. The wild version grows prolifically all over the yard, so I’m guessing the soil in the bucket is not as good as I thought. Harvested the wild stuff several times - quite yummy.

It got down to a mind numbing 37 degrees this morning!!! I had to let the Silverado warmup for 7 minutes to defrost the windshield at 8am this morning. I picked about 75 small tomatoes this afternoon off of 7 plants in the little greenhouse plus I have been cutting up pumpkins for steaming to make pulp for pies, cakes, breads, cookies and fudge. I should be using Kevlar gloves when I do that.

Thanks for the link. Those look absolutely wonderful. I do get hungry for a good sandwich now and then and those look like they would be great.

Sometimes I get sleepy after I eat, if I stuff myself with carbs. LOL

Dr. says I have a sleep disorder something like delayed sleep due to longer than 24 hr. cycle or something. Since I’m retired and have other issues to discuss, we don’t spend a lot of time on this - he just gave me an Rx for Ambien which I only take if I have to be up in the AM.

I try to schedule everything for the afternoon, since I don’t usually get sleepy until 7-10 AM. I have sometimes gone without sleep for 3 days running - usually when I have to get up at a normal time.

Once I was so sleepy and tired after 3 days of trying to get a decent night’s sleep, I was really tired and went to bed at 10 pm thinking I would sleep all night. I woke up about an hour and half later - wide awake. Tried to sleep, but stayed awake all night, and had to go to a meeting at 8am.

Around 11 am, the meeting was over, and I went to my room to rest. Went to sleep and didn’t wake up till 5 pm. It’s really weird.

Right now, as long as I don’t fight it, I can go to sleep around 7 or 8 am and wake up around 1 or 2pm. But, the cycle doesn’t stay static either. That’s just the one I’m in right now.

It must be awful trying to plan things sometimes!

Yikes.

I finally got the mulch on my onions. I have shredded redwood on one bed and leaves on the other.

I pruned my nonproductive grapevines, trimmed all the rosebushes, pulled some weeds and ran the weedeater over what’s left of the asparagus in order to tidy up the little backyard.

I’ll probably throw some straw over the hugelkultur bed tomorrow if it doesn’t rain.

Probably done with gardening until spring.

I’ll be sewing, quilting and making socks now. :)

I need to start tomatoes much earlier indoors in containers. I had many green tomatoes freeze, but only a few matured before the first freeze.

Saturday was a washout here in Central Missouri. It didn’t rain hard, or a lot, just enough to make things miserable outside.

So... Mrs. Augie and I spent some time cleaning out the shop. I pulled a flat tire off of the little John Deere and dropped that off at the tire store on my way to work this morning. It was no fun not having room to park my truck inside last winter, so I commandeered a run-in shed from the horses to store the mowers and bicycles this year. I’ve got several shop projects to complete this winter and now I have space to work and to park the truck.

Yesterday was nice out and I got a bit done in the kitchen garden. The weed whacker repair was successful, and I was able to get a decent size patch buzzed down to the ground and the duff cleaned up. Now I just need a couple hours to plant the garlic and cover it up with compost. I’d have preferred that done a little earlier in the fall but it will fine. I was late getting it in last year and had a bumper crop anyway.

In between all of that I managed to finish up smoking the jerky from Mrs. Augie’s buck, brine the back loins, and get them into the smoker for pastrami. I put a couple pieces of the pastrami in the fridge for sandwiches this week and the rest will be vacuum packed and frozen for later.

Nephew Stephen caught a buck deer messing around with a doe in the front yard this morning and sent him to the big deer playground in the sky. We picked him up with the little Massey, hung him up in my shop and field dressed him. We’ll skin him and bone him out after work today.

Great news! My favorite cooking supply web site, Chefscatalog.com, which was bought by Target (Spit!) and then closed, has been resurrected!

So keep us posted on your winter hobbies, even if they aren’t gardening - it’s interesting to hear what people are doing during the “off” season.

Saturday was a loss here too. Glad to hear that late garlic has a chance. I planted more than ever before this year, but got it in so late, I was afraid it wouldn’t do anything.

We have a new meat market in town, and they smoke something every day. I especially like the chickens. They also process deer for the local hunters - saw on facebook that they were full up - no more room for anymore deer.

That is good news. I really like it when stuff like that happens.

Not much going on in the garden right now. Pansies blooming and that’s about all. Will have a nice bouquet of fresh flowers on the dining table tomorrow.

Happy Thanksgiving to the group!
