Yeah. However, they do make genuinely creepy horror movies, which can traumatize viewers without much blood and gore.

I heard a story that, years ago, a Japanese language class at some prep school included the viewing of one of such Japanese movies. Students had nightmares for days after seeing the movie. The instructor received an warning from school administration.

I’ve actually never been to a theater to see a creepy Japanese horror movie. We seem to only go see the latest Pixar film every year. The last home grown movie based on a manga story, I saw with my wife last month was, https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/In_This_Corner_of_the_World_(film), and it was excellent.
