I’ve actually never been to a theater to see a creepy Japanese horror movie. We seem to only go see the latest Pixar film every year. The last home grown movie based on a manga story, I saw with my wife last month was, https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/In_This_Corner_of_the_World_(film), and it was excellent.

They are usually not featured in U.S.. I think there is one remake of such a Japanese movie. Of course, there are other kinds of movies they are good at, especially animations. I was mentioning it because their horror movie is less known in U.S..
