LA JUNTA, Colo. (CBS4) An admitted murderer was elected to serve on the East Otero School Board in La Junta.
Thomas Seaba pleaded guilty to murdering a fellow Marine in the 90s. A detective on the case said Seaba shot the victim five times.
Seaba moved back to Colorado after getting out of jail and got a job with La Juntas Wastewater Department.
Although, it was obvious a set of horrific mistakes compounding on one another which led to me serving time in prison, said Seaba.
The East Otero School Districts superintendent, Rick Lovato, said We researched to see what the criteria was. It is not outside of the rights for a person with a felony conviction to run for the office.
The only thing that would bar someone for running for school board in Colorado is a sex crime against a child.
Lovato says the district will not interfere with the voters decision.
His past was well known during the school board race.

I'm 67 and in the "old days" he would never have been elected, not even as a Democrat.
Colorado has turned into a Rocky Mountain California
Nothing new. Massachusetts sent a known killer to the US Senate for 30+ years.
The owner over-oiled the gun. He drops it and shoots the guy in the head. Later, he comes back to pick it up, and he juggles the slippery gun as it fires repeatedly. Could happen to anybody.
I understand that happens a lot with revolvers, so the solution is to only use submachine guns.
Did you ever listen to the 911 tapes?
Seaba left the victim to go to the phone.
“911 - what is your emergency?”
“Um - I just killed a guy on accident.”
“Okay - are you sure he’s dead?”
“Um - hold on.”
.
.
Bang..Bang...Bang...Bang
“Um - yeah - he’s dead. Now what?”
“Known Killer’’. Wow. With a name like that who’d ever hire this guy. (sar.)
Lo! yeah, right? When I first heard about ‘’sexual harassment in DC’’ I said “I thought Ted Kennedy was dead?’’.
Parr for the course.
It’s a public school board position!
I find it hard to belief that he would have been elected if this was a real murder in the ordinary sense.

I agree with you. Without knowing the circumstances it is foolish to pass judgment.
Like, the victim was a conservative republican.
Turning left when you were supposed to go right is a mistake. Kissing the wrong sister when you are dating twins is a mistake. Once you get around to shooting the same person a fifth time, it's a stretch to call your actions a mistake.
