From about 14,500 to 11,500 years ago, a period known as the Younger Dryas, the world experienced dramatic climate shifts. The shift at the end of the Younger Dryas was particularly abrupt, according to the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). Archaeologists have agreed that Göbekli Tepe is at least 12,000 years old, placing it within this period.
The site was rapidly buried about 1,000 years after its creation. Whether this was done intentionally by people or by nature is a matter of debate. Some have theorized that the society wanted to protect the monuments from the cataclysm.

Fenton has found what he says are clearly Aboriginal churinga stones, sacred objects, at Göbekli Tepe.
On another pillar, Fenton has identified a symbol usually reserved for the most sacred artifacts of the Australian Aboriginal culture, churinga stones. He has also found what he believes are churinga stones at other 12,000-year-old sites in Turkey thought to be connected to the Göbekli Tepe culture. They display the concentric circles characteristically used by Aboriginals to depict watering holes, and the zig-zag lines used to depict water ways.
Many of the animal symbols on the stones relate to Aboriginal clan totems, Fenton said via email. He has also noticed similarities between the only female figure depicted at Göbekli Tepe and the Aboriginal depictions of Yingarna, the creator.

It’s not the same. Not the same. See the differences? not the same. No, aliens didn’t come down and scratch the symbols in two different places. No, aborigines didn’t find a way to go to what is now Turkey.
Archaeologists worldwide are approaching this discovery with caution, lest their reputation be runed.
Still waiting for the Starbucks and WalMart logos! LOL
meh, someone went on a nice vacation
“my brother got a churinga stone, and all I got was
a t shirt”
Spot on about the HTML tag.
As for the Abo image on the left, for too long archeological dogma has been to assume all these images are final. Surely there had to be practice pieces by apprentices containing their mistakes. Absent Abo spell check looks, looks like god with the g descender and d ascender missing. I suggest that this was junior's first stab failure, brought home to a proud mama, much like the ceramic ashtray made in 4th grade....or not.
But a churinga stone T-shirt would be pretty cool.
OMG!!! Different human beings far from each other cannot possibly find themselves using symbols that resemble each other, all on their own and with absolutely no cultural connection, can they? YES, they ABSOLUTELY can.
There is something very HUMAN about how different groups of human beings find an affinity with similar symbols. It is not all “cross-cultural” but something common to the inner human.
Healthy skepticism, gentlemen. Very good.
But bear in mind that there was an antediluvian civilization. The only question is how widespread it was.
Thanks! Right back atcha!
“Runed”?
Either clever comment or best typo, ever.
:D
And Egyptians taught Mayans how to build pyramids which they learned from space aliens.
Tell me another one.
Looks like millennia post collapse depictions of a water molecule and hydrogen atom.
Are you sure that’s not a traffic jam, proving that even early man drove cars.
Lots of symbols are common.
Makes sense when you think about it. The “mother culture” of all mankind started somewhere, and I doubt it was Australia.
Perhaps it just had some kind of ritual purpose... or maybe it indicated genitalia... ;^)
Come on. An “(H)” in one glyph on the squared-off keystone on one corner of one temple in Turkey is like a ((o)) on a simple smooth rock in Australia?
Yes, people could have walked in 2 years from Turkey to the Australian outback before the land-bridge was lost/submerged, and, yes, the two symbols could be linked.
But, no - The two do not look anything related except by someone desperately looking to publish an “Aborigines are special” paper for his/her publishing list for his/her next promotion.
"Is it a mere coincidence that pyramids are found throughout our globe? Did cultures ranging across vast spaces in geography and time, such as the ancient Egyptians; early Bud-dhists; the Maya, Inca, Toltec, and Aztec civilizations of the Americas; the Celts of the British Isles; and even the Mississippi Indians of pre-Columbus Illinois, simply dream the same dreams and envision the same structures?
