I wonder if they will explain why lately I am seeing Jeeps like this, with Scuba gear attached that looks like a factory stock vehicle with this extra apparatus. The weird thing is I may see 2 or 3 of these in one day after never seeing anything like this in the last 40 years. Is this some new fad or what?

It’s called a ‘Fording Kit’..............It turns the Jeep into a Ford................

My 65 Willys has a removable cover on the hood that might have allowed something similar.
That’s figuring that the hood on it is original.

That’s the air intake for the engine. It’s deliberately moved up there to prevent the engine from sucking in water, mud, etc.

That may be an optional rooftop exhaust configuration for the "Rubicon" model ... as in Caesar's river crossing. Going way off-road, that could be a very useful feature. Pity that Jeeps have a very poor reputation for overall quality.

The old Military models had water tight ignition and snorkels. They were a pain in the butt to maintain. The seals on the ignition were always going bad and parts were expensive and hard to get. Unless you plan on fording rivers that are 3 feet deep or more they're a waste.

That snorkel is a really fast way to kill a lot of horsepower due to airflow restriction.
A tacticool fad for the wannabe off roaders. .
