I think The Toyota FJ40 is a snazzier looking vehicle, but I own a 1981 CJ-5.
Anyone remember when Subaru imported some 2 cylinder two cycle 4 wheel drives back around 1974? I saw the min Farmington NM back then. I also found some had been imported to Kansas City, but the EPA stopped them. Later they imported the Samurai.
The vintage landcruiser was good.
I have an 82 cj7 in pieces.
I think you’re mistaking Subaru with Suzuki who is the one that imported the Samurai.

I’d never heard of that
Saab had some two strokes back in the late 50s I think
Citroen too
I didn’t know about Subaru
Fj40 today ain’t cheep
We have had a 2001 FJ100 almost since it was born in Toyota City
280,000 mikes and my son drives it now
Best car I ever owned
I have a 2010 FJ too
You just cannot do better hardly
We own two jeeps as well a two door and four door
No question the jeeps are better in tight or very rocky off road
But that FJ 100 is luxury and off-road in spades
I worked on both many of the Jeeps from the early CJs on up & also quite a few Toyota FJ Cruisers. The Toyota was by far better built. Jeeps were always overpriced for what you got which was usually ancient technology.

Still a big Jeep fan. My first was a YJ (square headlight) 4 cylinder. Then a couple of TJs, a Rubicon and a Sahara, then an LJ. That was probably the best Jeep Ive ever had, regret selling it. Had a set of factory half doors and full doors for it. Now I have a JKU (current 4 door model) Sahara. They are really fantastic cars, but thats kinda the problem. Theyre more car, than Jeep.
