I just found the Popular Science, April 1973 article which Explains why I remember it being named the "Mini-Brute."

Can you imagine any company today naming a product, particularly a vehicle, the "Brute"? Liberals across the land would swoon on their fainting couches, be clutching their pearls, screaming "RAPE," and howling like snowflakes in a blizzard.

The base 1973 CJ5 was priced at $3,086, only a couple hundred more than the underpowered, miniature, two-stroke Suzuki.

I own twohree incluidng the old Willys

I haven’t had any problems

One is 10 years old

My biggest complaint is keeping floor carpet down when water comes up into the seat wells

And no Bluetooth so I carry a jbl portable speaker for the phone so I can hear

It used to be getting leather in a jeep was hard like an FJ

not now I think it’s common in four doors

The dodge 3.7 engine while no performance winner is very durable and cheap to replace which I have done in. dodge 1500

You can also put a Cummins diesel four banger in jeeps and FJs

The 4BT

Speaking of v twins

I want an Indian scout flattracker for Christmas

I can race old guy class

I wonder if they will explain why lately I am seeing Jeeps like this, with Scuba gear attached that looks like a factory stock vehicle with this extra apparatus.

I've seen a few running around, too. The old Military models had water tight ignition and snorkels. They were a pain in the butt to maintain. The seals on the ignition were always going bad and parts were expensive and hard to get. Unless you plan on fording rivers that are 3 feet deep or more they're a waste.

Had a hard top version when I was in High School. Looked like this one, but was Beige in color.

Still a big Jeep fan. My first was a YJ (square headlight) 4 cylinder. Then a couple of TJs, a Rubicon and a Sahara, then an LJ. That was probably the best Jeep I’ve ever had, regret selling it. Had a set of factory half doors and full doors for it. Now I have a JKU (current 4 door model) Sahara. They are really fantastic cars, but that’s kinda the problem. They’re more car, than Jeep.

Speaking of mopars, only one I ever owned was a ‘76 dodge D100 powerwagon I bought in my early 20’s that was pretty well worn. Short wheelbase, single cab fulltime 4 wheel drive. Put a 318 in it, with the 727 totqueflite trans. it was very dependable and pretty hard to get stuck even though it only had wornout 30” mudders. Learned more about auto repair owning that truck than I ever did anything else........Good luck with the Indian.

My condolences. KIA is an honorable exit. Had a 1985 Ford Bronco that went out that way.
I’ve always liked Fords and I don’t know why. Mine have been RELIABLE - perhaps luck ?? LOL !
