Some of the same folks who see this possibility are among those who deny that we humans can adapt to “climate change” (”rising sea levels”).
Favorite line. Best line.
"Good heavens Bond! What are you doing?"
"Just keeping the British end up, Sir.
I would think that for the super-rich this is equivalent to a gated community with superlative views. Can’t imagine them moving to the cheap land unless they could buy up most of it to get isolation, if not a view. I imagine such a community could afford a pretty good anti-pirate defense force. You could even hire local sharks and brag about saving the sealife.
So if al gore is convinced the sea levels will rise, how does a floating city survive?
and not one decent seafood restaurant in any of them.
The project is being partially funded by an initial coin offering, a new concept sweeping Silicon Valley and Wall Street in which money can be raised by creating and selling virtual currency.
South Sea Bubble 2.0
I think one just did! And Im miles inland.
Heard the same rhetoric from http://oceania.org - which shut down in 1994.
Heck, heard similar from NASA: 40 years ago they were telling me I’d go to the Moon in 40 years. Now they’re promising 40 years from now.
I have high hopes for such lofty aspirations for independence - tempered by the high cost of implementation & maintenance.
I just finished reading a history of Haiti. In a close parallel, it was a near-unoccupied island with everything going for it any “libertarian paradise” could want (technically a colony, but almost as independent as practically possible). Long story short, the tremendous proven productivity potential of the island fast failed from the unwillingness of enough people to actually work that hard. Likewise, the images shown depict an artificial space (not even the benefit of square miles of natural topsoil) that will be hard-pressed to produce more value than the sunk costs to create & maintain it; in addition, that’s very little space per person.
I’ll follow the project with interest, but have my doubts (having seen many other mega projects come & go).
Lol! Wish I would have thought of that sooner!

Or even seasonal relocation. North for the summer, south for the winter.
2) Where does the poop go?
Desalination units, septic waste processing.
We’ve always dreamed of some kind of colonies. That’s why so many of us read science fiction. But the reality... Actually living in that sort of environment and trying to get a decent condo association going... Agree, any start up costs would just keep it going until they ran out.

PERFECT!
That really got me. Well done!
So maybe they could convince Legal Seafoods to open up there. On the other hand, if there’s a glass wall to the ocean, maybe the sealife is looking in at THEIR potential dinner.
I know the standard answer. I just wonder if I believe it. The drinking water maybe, the poops not so much.
