She did develop a way to hop around between different carrier frequencies as a way to make it hard to intercept transmissions unless your receiver is synced up to tune in those same frequencies at all the appropriate times. Anyone listening on just one frequency would just hear static. The receiver has to tune to the correct frequency at the right time, then to the next correct frequency at the right time, etc. This idea was extended and came to be called spread spectrum and yes, it's used in WiFi primarily to prevent different nodes from interfering with each other. Heddy Lamaar was a hot science babe.
