I had a boss from Hong Kong. While getting his MS in the US, he was perplexed by the number of people that kept asking what part of Japan was Hong Kong.

He finally wised up, and started telling the geographically-challenged "The Northern part".

Whenever I meet someone from Ireland, I always ask, "From Northern Ireland? Or Southern Ireland?"
