Heres hoping Rick Grimes has a good retirement plan. During a conference call with Wall Street analysts on Thursday, AMC CEO Josh Sapan hinted that the The Walking Dead could stay on the air for years if not decades. The use of the word franchise, we dont take lightly, the exec said, per our sister site Deadline. Its not a sloppy or casual word. Weve studied the best. Some have been around 30, 40, 50 years. We have a chance for a lot of life in the franchise. (UPDATE: An AMC insider stresses that Sapan was referring to the franchise as a whole and not specifically the mothership series.)
Despite experiencing some ratings erosion of late, The Walking Dead remains a force to reckon with in its current eighth season. The drama returned last month to 11.4 million total viewers and a 5.0 demo rating, down dramatically (by 33 and 40 percent) from Season 7s record-setting premiere but on par with its April finale (and good enough to retain its title as TVs top scripted series).
I ducked out last season.
I do keep a Browning Buckmark , 4 magazines and 2000 rounds of .22 LR handy though. :>)
AMC is the walking dead...has been since it changed its original format.
I think I quit after the third or fourth season. Used to like it, but enough is enough. The show itself seems to be undead.
I stopped watching after season 5. It just feels like it’s never going anywhere.
Yup. Walking Dead. Fear The Walking Dead. Talking Dead. It’s too much. I miss Breaking Bad.
The tripe has been going on longer than that. I quit a couple of years ago.
I miss the old AMC with old time movies uncut.
I still remember when I realized they were dead to me. They were playing the original Friday the 13th as a classic movie.
Not if they stay on the trajectory Season 8 is on.
Yup, Rick had a clear easy shot at him and missed. He them also screwed up the follow on. One good thing I learned was that corrugated tin roof is bullet proof.
You would think that with all the zombies at least one of them would be . . . you know . . . nekkid! They are all fully dressed and some look like they just came out of the beauty parlor (or was that the embalmer).
Maybe the show itself will become a zombie???
But I guess there are still a few bucks to be wrung out of the old Dead.
But mark my words, if they're planning for an endless run, the next big conflict is going to be between the "Kill 'em all" hardcores and the peacenik "Love your neighbor" guys like Hay-soos (I refuse to blaspheme and call him by the name the series has given him.)
That’s the thing I’ve always had trouble understanding with these zombie shows. The zombies should deteriorate at least eventually. Sure, you will have a peak zombie point in time where there are literally millions upon millions of them, but those numbers should drop by huge amounts the more time has passed, especially over a hot summer.
Agreed. It eventually just got intolerable. Streaming permits skipping. I concede that I watched longer than I should have. Ask the wife: The tv’s a sniveling shell of itself due to being screamed into submission...
At least AMC has Better Call Saul
