Kids like that one are all around us each and every day. The trouble is that they are not the ones making news, trouble, worries and committing a large and long list of crimes.

Our bowl was down to about 8 pieces when a group of 4 kids came up. I gave three of them their treat, then the last girl, about 12 or 13, said “Oh, you’re almost out. I don’t need one.”
That was amazing and so sweet.
I got a rock.
Years ago, wife and I decided to go to a movie on 10/31. We completely filled a bowl, put a note next to it, and set it up on the enclosed porch entryway.
By the time we got into the car, and before we could even close the car door, the bowl was empty.

I get hit with lots of kids that are driven in by their parents from elsewhere, really miffs some of the neighbors. I handle it by getting the cheapest candy in bulk that I can find which I dole out to everyone. However, I also keep a hidden tray of full size candy bars out of sight which I only give out to the kids that are polite and say thank you.
That’s a great kid right there. I love catching kids (and adults) doing kind things when they don’t think anyone is watching.
I think I was in the last part of the sweet spot for Halloween when I was a kid (late 60’s-early 70s), and had a great time going trick or treating. It’s changed quite a bit now but I’ve always been disappointed because we rarely have trick or treaters at our door. Even the few kids on our street go to the neighborhood just up the street for their candy. That neighborhood is like Halloween Town with decorations but I think I’d get extra-grumpy if I had to accommodate 700-800 children knocking on my door for candy.

Halloween night I left my candy bowl out on the porch while I went in to grab a slice of pizza. Heard a teen yelling, “stop, stop, bowl” I zoomed to the front door, and we both got the bowl at the same time, me bellowing, “Don’t you try to take that bowl.”
He instantly feigned innocence. Heard him tell his pals when he got back in the vehicle, “Did you see that old lady? Man, she knew what I was going after.”
I really wanna whack some of these kids up aside the head when they behave badly.
I almost put out a sign on my door this year. “You want candy? Get a job!”

Kids like that are avoiding the damage that their Halloween candy would do them.
the year my parents told me I was to old to go Tricker Treating me and a friend set up a bowl of candy in front of my friends house. we put a sign that said happy Halloween please take just one. unknown to anyone approaching the bowl there was a hole in both table and bowl. we had taken a rubber cleaning glove and rubber cemented it to the bowl. if some one fallowed the direction on the sign and only took one piece of candy nothing happened but if they tried to take a hand full one of us hidden under the table would grab them with the glove and pull them into the candy bowl. a lot of greedy kids were scared that night.
