The Battle-Scarred West Wing Veteran Scripting the N.F.L.’s Anthem Message
New York Times ^ | October 29, 2017 | Ken Belson

In the late 1990s, when the Clinton White House was under siege amid revelations of the president’s affair with Monica Lewinsky and efforts by Congress to impeach him, it fell on Joe Lockhart, then the White House spokesman, day after day to defend his boss.

But unlike many of his predecessors, he did not just take his marching orders. In countless meetings with the president and his advisers, Lockhart helped shape the message he would convey, and he aggressively pressed it to reporters.

“He was out there, he was on point, he was wearing his cleats,” said Doug Sosnik, an adviser to the president who worked closely with Lockhart at the time. “He’s a tough guy, willing to say what needs to be said, and he’s not worried about what people are saying about him.”

People have a lot to say about him again.

Last year, Lockhart took his pugnacious style to another embattled institution, the National Football League, where the lifelong Democratic operative has found himself in the conservative confines of a league staggered by the reaction to players’ demonstrating during the playing of the national anthem at games, as well as cases involving domestic violence, concussions, player misconduct and an array of other issues.

An excerpt from the article: "In interviews with about a dozen league and team executives — all of whom refused to speak on the record — several owners seemed pleased with his approach to addressing the anthem controversy, which was to strive for a way for the N.F.L. to appear patriotic while respectful of its players who were kneeling to raise awareness of racism and police brutality toward African-Americans."

There is nothing patriotic or respectful about kneeling during the National Anthem.

Clintonista thinking! It explains the NFL owner’s tone deafness, lack of connection & contempt for its customers.

Everywhere a liberal is at work, destruction follows.

Lockhart is what is wrong with the NFL among many other things including a flaming liberal commissioner.

Hillary thinking, maybe, but not Bill. She’s a true believer who wants to implement the same policies that made the Soviet Union what it is today. Bill just wants a chance to party with women he is not married to.

True, very true.

Having an ex-Clinton spokesman “forging policy” from Washington before, during, and after the Shitte hits the fan is both the symptom of the problem, the cause of the problem, and the residue of the problem.

The NFL’s inept, stupid, condescending (and racist, anti-American) response is, indeed, typical of how the Clinton and Obama White House failed.

I suppose after selling his house to Obama’s he’s got time and money to fart around with lost causes like this.

"kneeling to raise awareness of racism and police brutality toward African-Americans."

How about raising awareness about the fact that although blacks comprise only 12% of the American population they commit 50% of the violent crimes?

Joe Lockhart manipulating the press to say what he wants, nothing more. And this ‘raising awareness’ crap should have died out a long time ago. The one thing I respected from Whoopi Goldberg was, in the 90’s, when she announced she wouldn’t be ‘wearing ANY ribbons’ when she hosted the Academy Awards. We know that now as ‘virtue signalling’. Even she recognized the phoniness of the action in the 90’s.

The Slimes doesn't care that sports are supposed to be an escape from things like politics.

The Slimes thinks that sports should only be free of politics they disagree with, and they should get to shove theirs down the peasants' throats.

“... a way for the N.F.L. to appear patriotic while respectful of its players who were kneeling to raise awareness of racism and police brutality toward African-Americans.”

Well, couple things.

1. Stand for the flag, the national anthem and show respect for the country that loves you.

2. Speaking of love, act with love.

3. You are on the clock. If I want to hear a political or social message I’ll go to another U2 concert...never again.

4. Stop pretending you care. You don’t. I do not one single player going into the media forum to make the case for whatever this is about.

Heck, the erstwhile leader Kaepernack has been front and center on this issue so many times, as in ...like...never....

Not only is he incapable of completing a pass he is a social butterfinger, not just inadequate but a complete fraud.

His fakery of demanding a job only a con artist would contrive ought to be insulting to all Americans .

He is a rube.

I have been saying for years that Roger Goodell is out to do to the NFL (and game of Football) exactly what Obama was set to do to our country and our military.

On behalf of the Clinton Crime Family.

Hardly a compliment.
