Not that long ago...maybe 10 years ago..I saw a documentary (on PBS IIRC) about Marine recruit training.The cameras followed two platoons of recruits,one male and the other female.It was claimed that the two platoon were getting *exactly* the same training...no concessions for the women.

After one particularly rough day of training (the same training) they brought the cameras to several members of both platoons.The guys were clearly exhausted,sore and even a bit dispirited but every one of them made it clear that they would carry on.

The women were weeping like little girls.

Women in combat? BS! Women at the Service Academies? BS! Women in the military? Sure...in support roles.Nowhere near combat.

Until 1980, when the first women graduated, the mission of the service academies was to produce professional combat officers.
