But, those "supreme moralists" also tend to believe they are w/o sin and forget that in the Old testament, even the "smallest" sin was grounds for eternity in Hell. Steal a handful of grain - Hell - think unwholesome thoughts when looking at the wife down the street - Hell.
Funny how such as you are willing to ameliorate your own sins because the sins of others are "worse than that".....
Which sin is less bad? Adultery was the death penalty for both of those caught in the act by witnesses. Same with bestiality. You could get away with it if you did it in private. Stealing? well you pay back what you stole. Whatever you demanded from someone had to be somewhat to the crime. Considering adultery could infect your spouse and children with STDs, I can understand why they did what they did.
If you are talking about private retribution, then that would be a failure to follow current law. I find it hard to believe that you are unaware that someone's moral code has been enacted into law.
I'm all for restoring what once used to be part of our legal code, before some judge chose to impose his own moral code. Look who is acting like a little dictator?
I agree with the Bible, that "All have sinned and come short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23)." That includes me. That includes you. And unless men acknowledge their own sin, they cannot begin to receive the "good news." That good news says that men no longer need to pay for their own sins in hell, but can receive forgiveness through the atoning work of Jesus Christ.
Any sin will earn hell, but not all sins have the same punishments in this life. Some require capital punishment. Others require repayment/compensation. And the execution of justice is not a free-for-all, but requires coming before a judge/elder with evidence and witnesses.
If you haven't trusted Jesus to save you from the consequences of your sins, I encourage you listen to the following gospel presentation (9 minutes). It is the most important thing you'll do today.
