JEH was conservative, by the book, meticulous leader whose record of accomplishments in methods of investigation, forensics, and anti-communist efforts is second to none. The left hated him with a passion and worked tirelessly to discredit him and the agency. As long as he was alive they got nowhere. Once dead is was important for them to discredit him and the agency. The FBI, during the social revolution of the 60s and 70’s, was so successful in neutering Weathermen, SDS, and Black Panthers, mostly by infiltrating them, that Congress passed legislation limiting that important tool, essentially tying their hands behind their back. He is also the one who stood tall in keeping the KGB from running rampart on our shores. If there is one person this FR site should stand behind it is JEH. I read an excellent, well researched book about all of this good work a few years ago, but I just can’t recall the name of it. I am an octogenarian and memory is not a strong suit.
