The standard deductions are going to be doubled - this should mean that many people will no longer gain any advantage in itemizing their deductions and thus not need to consider SALT at all -in fact, the only taxpayers who will be hurt by this proposal are the relatively wealthy who pay very high local and state taxes and thus have itemized deductions higher than the new, higher standard deductions - since lefties are always complaining that Republicans want to lower taxes on the rich, it’s hard to see why they’d object to this idea.....

It also means that MANY people SHALL be paying far MORE, than that pittance they get from the doubling of the standard deduction. And NO...it won't "hurt" just the "relatively wealthy! And just WHAT amount makes one "relatively wealthy" ?

And this proposal/Bill DOES lower taxes on companies...who are VERY WEALTHY!

I get it that paying taxes on taxes is insane. I also get it that Standard Deductions are already so high that anyone in the lower middle class and on down probably doesn't have to itemize anyway. I dislike it that this will probably be a garbage bill that includes a whole lot of things conservatives hate. I'm pretty disgusted that they're still calling it "middle class tax relief" and their one big reform is slashing the 401K.

The only way to solve anything is to keep it simple. 10% flat tax, no deductions for anything, and everyone would have some skin in the game. Anything else is just begging for nothing new to happen.
