I should add to above post that first thing I did on the used laptop was format the hard drive and load a fresh copy of windows.

I wipe the machine, load Linux Mint and Virtual Box. Run Virtual Box and clean install Windows into that VM. Then keep a copy of that VM one a flash drive that I lock away.

Of course, I work in IT Security and people think I am paranoid.
