WASHINGTON Senator John McCain, the sometimes cantankerous, often charming and eternally irrepressible Republican from Arizona, has never minced words. But in the twilight of a long and storied career, as he fights a virulent form of brain cancer, the 81-year-old senator has found a new voice..
In twin speeches one in July, where he issued a call to bipartisanship in the Senate, and another in Philadelphia this past week, where he railed against half-baked, spurious nationalism Mr. McCain has taken on both his colleagues and President Trump. In the process, his friends and fellow senators say, he has carved out a new role for himself on Capitol Hill: elder statesman and truth-teller.
Even if John were not ill, with his experience and age, there is a part of you that I think begins to focus on your legacy, said former Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr., a close friend of Mr. McCains. But with cancer, Mr. Biden said, hes in the fight of his life, and he knows it.

McCain will be History soon.
McCain is a turd.
I just recalled

Now he’s gonna have to tell em, that he’s got no cerebellum. Zombie proof Juan speaks again.
You are a nearly insane man.
McCain is too stupid to realize that he is now the new Cindy Shehan.
His 15 min of fame is just about over.
He showed extremely poor form when he lost the primary to Bush, displaying a temper that is quite unpresidential. He is showing as little grace and dignity now. I do not know how much of his current behavior is due to his nasty personality or to his brain cancer; it is difficult to tell.
Barf!
An honorable man, he ain’t, would hand over the seat to a capable person, in the best interests of his country.
Wow.... He is now truth teller. How bout the truth on the golden shower dossier.
McCain is an unrestrained voice against Americanism
“elder statesman and truth-teller.”
On the left, ALL is forgiven (including once being the odious GOP nominee for POTUS) if you are now a progressive.
When are they going to pass Retroactive Term Limits?
I want to be president of the United States, and I don’t want Obama to be, he said. But I have to tell you, I have to tell you, he is a decent person, and a person that you do not have to be scared as President of the United States.

Barf alert required. Though de facto when talking about NY Slimes
A nation more polarized than Ive ever seen in my career. And a culture in Washington where the very few wealthy and powerful have a seat at the table and everybody else is on the menu.
Eight years later, we have another Republican nominee whos telling us the exact same thing:
This time it will be different, it really will. This time hes going to put country before party, to change the tone, reach across the aisle, change the Republican Party, change the way Washington works.
Weve seen this movie before, folks. But as everyone knows, the sequel is always worse than the original.
If we forget this history, were going to be doomed to repeat it — with four more just like the last eight, or worse. If youre ready for four more years of George Bush, John McCain is your guy.

Biden’s remarks Sept 15, 2008
(The internet is the invention the elites would have killed in the crib if they knew how easy it would be for the average Joe to research stuff and fact-check for themselves. Makes it damn awkward for the elites.)
