My mother taught me to be a feminist.She,like my Dad,was a child of the Depression.She grew up poor in the slums of Boston.She knew what the adult world was about.When circumstances demanded it she was absolutely no nonsense.She didn't pull any punches (no *literal* punches...they weren't necessary).

I know that the "typical" American woman is worthy of respect.I assume that the same is true of many (perhaps most) *non* American women as well.

And BTW...my Dad was always damn good to my Mom and to us so even with *his* example it never occurred to me to treat women with *dis* respect.

American women are like American blacks. They claim a community that does not exist. Women are not all alike. There is no homogeneity.
