If the room receipt is authentic then there may be other leaks and the leakers may feel more safe with an alternative journalist in contrast to a so-called legit news organization. It seems that Mandalay Bay insiders feed Laura information.

For example, the Valet Parking log screen that shows the perps vehicle and dates and times of entries.

Now, she is told that the perps valet entry / exit data has been scrubbed, indicating that leaked information will not be tolerated.
