His family says they have thrown him out of the business

HIGHLAND PARK, IL — The co-owner of Max’s Deli, Joey Morelli, announced Thursday that his brother Greg will be removed from all participation in the business, pending a legal separation agreement. In a statement, he expressed regret about recent posts “with unauthorized images and messages” made to the social media accounts of the Highland Park Jewish delicatessen, including an “alt-right” Nazi on its high holiday menu.

The morning after at least 58 people were killed and nearly 500 were wounded in Las Vegas, Greg Morelli tweeted that he felt “relief” when he learned it had been “white people shooting white people,” because it “isn’t terror ... it’s community outreach.” Morelli deleted the tweet and apologized on the deli’s Facebook page. That post and others he has made to the page have subsequently been deleted.

“Social media is where common sense goes to die. I’m not into it. I think people who tweet are narcissists at best,” Joey Morelli told Patch. “Greg’s been into social media to a fault, and I believe it can become an addiction and obsession. I don’t know why people do it, and it’s hurtful and hateful.”

Joey said he never wanted any of the attention his brother attracted with his inflammatory posts and regrets the impact it has had on the deli’s longtime employees.

“These staff members are my family, I love their kids. I’m here to run a business. I’m here to get the fourth generation running Max’s.”

The Max’s Deli website has menu items etc.; no mention of Greg’s postings.

Here’s Greg’s personal Facebook

>>MASS APOLOGY

I’m sorry. The words I chose hurt people. I apologize.

Name: Greg Morelli
Born: 1967

Roles: Son, Brother, Citizen In Crisis

We live in a time of mass shootings. This is my mass apology.

The thoughts have not worked. The prayers have not worked. What lead me to think Twitter was a good idea is beyond me. I simply do not know what to do about the shootings. Truly, I’m lost!

I own the words I wrote. They hurt people. I apologize.

Some have suggested I take them down. I don’t know if you can. Once it’s out there, it’s out there. But I’ll try.

There. I just took them down. Let’s see if it’s a step in the right direction.

For those who called, who think I’m advocating Gun Control, I’m sorry. I have no answers. Only questions. I do not want to take your guns. It’s up to you to decide what to do with your guns.

I simply do not know what to do about these mass shootings. I’m sorry.

For those who called, threatening my life, I’m sorry. Maybe this is my time. I’m going to try and make this right. But maybe I can’t. So maybe this is my time.

We’re all called. Maybe I’m being called. And not just by angry callers. Maybe I’m being called by something higher. We’ll see.

God Help Me!

Sorry to my staff, who took too many threatening phone calls, got scared and closed early. Sorry to my mom, who read all the comments, took them to heart and fears for my life. I let you down, Mom.

Sorry to my brother. I don’t know what else to say.

Good for the family. I hope the a-hole suffers in numerous ways for his callous comments.

Amen, brother.

“His family says they have thrown him out of the business”

Yeah; right. I’m not buying it. They have to say that in this desperate situation in order to save the business which, apparently, has been successful for three generations.

Little Greg technically will be “thrown out”, but I’m sure he’ll be well cared for by Mommy, Joey, et al. The whole business has to suffer (die, fail, close) to be a canary in the coal mine for other foul-mouthed haters when they consider consequences.

Just my opinion; I could be wrong.

Joey's a liar too! Joey was on the radio years ago with Greg talking in the same fashion. This family is scum and liars!
