My Austrian StG58-based FAL is a tack driver. My eyes aren’t what they used to be, but I’m back to busting milk jug sized targets at the rifleman’s quarter mile since I put decent optics on it.

Yeah, the guys at Steyr stepped up to a new level of hammer-forging capability with the StG-58 program. I've considered moving to something "more modern", but I rescued that box of pristine parts from those idiots over in Austria who wanted to take sledgehammers and bend every surplus rifle's barrel. It's tough to justify a SCAR-17 when the FAL still does the job.
I've been looking at various optics for mine, too. What did you go with?
