The Democratic Coalition the political group that filed an ethics complaint against Donald Trump over the weekend has filed a second complaint with the Department of Justice Tuesday, TheWrap has learned.
The group is asking the DOJ whether the president violated federal law when he called on NFL owners to fire players who kneel in protest during the national anthem.
Since there are both ethical and criminal components to President Trumps actions in this case, we have filed formal complaints with both OGE and DOJ, Democratic Coalition chairman Jon Cooper told TheWrap. Considering the serious nature of this matter, it is our expectation that the complaints will receive full and fair consideration by both agencies.
The group cited a statute which makes it a crime punishable by a fine or up to 15 years in prison or both, for the president, as well as members of Congress and other federal officials, to influence or threaten to influence a private companys hiring practices solely on the basis of partisan political affiliation.
We respectfully request that the U.S. Department of Justice investigate these potential criminal violations and take all appropriate disciplinary actions against President Trump, the coalition wrote in its complaint, addressed to Acting Assistant Attorney General Kenneth Blanco of the Justice Departments Criminal Division.
Trump kicked up a media firestorm Friday when he suggested during a rally in Alabama that coaches should get the son of a b players off the field if they continued to kneel. The comments triggered widespread protests from athletes, the league and coaches, many of whom condemned Trumps comments.
The president continued his assault on the sports world over the weekend and into Tuesday with a series of tweets slamming NFLs ratings and encouraging fans to boycott upcoming games.

Bless their hearts.
Hopefully their legal bill is through the roof.
Democrats talking ethics?
Bwahahahahaha.
I want to throw things.
That is all.
Yet, no concern about Obies attack on police officers.
Maybe the group will ask the DOJ if Hillary Clinton violated any laws with the classified material on the email server?
Proof that YouTuber Mark Dice is right: they need to find a cure for Liberalism (more like Leftism).
Wow so responding to and having an opinion on the flag is now considered an attack by deranged Leftist?
These people are insane.
Bring it on!
That's a national debate that would be healthy for the Republic.
Maybe the Collectivists/Corporatists/Democrats would like to begin with telling the class what the declared purpose of this Republic IS?
Good luck with that you dimwitted shmucks.
Bless their hearts.
So let me get this straight. The left assures everyone that the NFL players have the right — the right, darn it! — to protest, yet President Trump cannot say anything — at all.
Now I know the left is losing this.
Mr. President, please say, ‘The players acted stupidly.’
If the left were smart, they would just sit back and enjoy their victory here.
Are they trying to save the NFL now? Two entities they hate are being vilified by their victorious destruction of American culture (that is NFL football).
If they want to start down this road, we will find ourselves diverting this anger back to the liberals/democrats. And the enemy of my enemy of my enemy will have a new target all over again.
I don’t know how I feel about the Libs helping the NFL by changing the narrative for Trump and the NFL.
The NFL players were allegedly exercising their first amendment rights, and so was President Trump. He didn’t use the power of the feral government to come down on them. He just criticized them.
Mr. President, please say, The players acted stupidly.
I don’t think they know what Trump said at all. Wouldnt you love to see one of these NFL owners, when somebody disrespects our flag, to say, get that son of a bitch off the field right now hes fired,
solely on the basis of partisan political affiliation.
So he wanted only the Registered Democrats fired? That’s what it would take for that law to apply, given the clear and unambiguous wording.
