The Democratic Coalition the political group that filed an ethics complaint against Donald Trump over the weekend has filed a second complaint with the Department of Justice Tuesday, TheWrap has learned.
The group is asking the DOJ whether the president violated federal law when he called on NFL owners to fire players who kneel in protest during the national anthem.
Since there are both ethical and criminal components to President Trumps actions in this case, we have filed formal complaints with both OGE and DOJ, Democratic Coalition chairman Jon Cooper told TheWrap. Considering the serious nature of this matter, it is our expectation that the complaints will receive full and fair consideration by both agencies.
The group cited a statute which makes it a crime punishable by a fine or up to 15 years in prison or both, for the president, as well as members of Congress and other federal officials, to influence or threaten to influence a private companys hiring practices solely on the basis of partisan political affiliation.
We respectfully request that the U.S. Department of Justice investigate these potential criminal violations and take all appropriate disciplinary actions against President Trump, the coalition wrote in its complaint, addressed to Acting Assistant Attorney General Kenneth Blanco of the Justice Departments Criminal Division.
Trump kicked up a media firestorm Friday when he suggested during a rally in Alabama that coaches should get the son of a b players off the field if they continued to kneel. The comments triggered widespread protests from athletes, the league and coaches, many of whom condemned Trumps comments.
The president continued his assault on the sports world over the weekend and into Tuesday with a series of tweets slamming NFLs ratings and encouraging fans to boycott upcoming games.

Yea, cause that never happens.
They didn’t ask the Department of Justus to investigate Obonzo’s attack on gun owners. What the hell is wrong with these pinheads?
Nothing would surprise me with the left.
Keep digging AH’s!
I think you must misunderstand my intent. If unsure, you should ask instead of knee jerk name calling. It’s a liberal tactic. I love the game of football. I am actually a coach (10 - 11 Years old) and I played in college. I have been a very loyal fan for as long as I can recall.
Here is what is great about the game.
Football is the ultimate team sport. When played as a team, every individual makes a crucial contribution on most plays. Every player has an individual battle that they must win for the success of the team on each play. The team must communicate and work together to define those battles. Every player has a job to do. And each player has talents and contributions that are unique to their position and sometimes even the play or strategy of the team.
It is a tough sport. It is physically demanding and sometimes painful. It is also a test of mental fortitude and stamina. It takes a certain level of commitment to push through exhaustion and physical stress on behalf of the team. It pits boys and men against each other in a swarming hostile environment to physically dominate opponents on behalf of their team. It forces individuals to measure their own self worth based on their contribution. It is a gloriously brutal and violent test of grit, play after play. The preparation, conditioning, effort and practice that is required to just participate is more demanding than many most other team sports.
And participation comes with risk. There is a risk of injury. There is a risk of failure. So it also takes courage. Launching your body into another person and accelerating through contact, instead of bracing for it, is NOT a natural human tendency. Learning the proper techniques to do this (fundamentals) takes years of practice to perfect and is essential as the competition gets stronger and faster, at a minimum, for the players own safety.
So please do not take my frustration posts and rants as a dig on football. I am upset and disappointed in the NFL and the players. I am upset that they let politics and liberal ideology ensnare and enslave them. And now they are reaping what they sow. Their chickens have come home to roost. I pray that they find their way back to what makes the game great and can let me enjoy that game without being reminded of politics.
Ought to call for looking into the NFL’s attack on cops and America....
And the NFL forgot their fan base is very politically Conservative, too. In short, it exposed the Left for the fools that they really are.
I hope that does happen.
The question is will Jeff Sessions call for the investigation and then recuse himself.
I keep wishing for an open season on bagging Demorats.
They’re getting more desperate and idiotic every day.
Maybe President Trump should use the IRS to look into the players, and the owners, financial records for inconsistencies?
Whoop di doo...words mean things AND, in the spirit of my Free Speech, I'm very much ok with what I've posted to your post.
"Wouldn't you love to see one of these NFL owners, when somebody disrespects our flag, to say, 'Get that son of a bitch off the field right now. He is fired. He's fired!'"

I have no idea as to the political affiliation of those kneeling during the National Anthem. < whistles innocently>
Take the red pill guys - the problems in the black community are caused by choices made in the black community. It's NOT Jim Crow - it's NOT 1964 - it's NOT the police ... it's violent out-of-control criminals in the black community.
AND
The rest of us are tired of paying higher taxes and having to buy our own security systems so police can spend their money, resources and efforts babysitting the black community.
Take the red pill... Black men are 6% of the population - - they murder 42% of all cops killed in the line of duty over the last decade.
Partisan political affiliation has nothing to do with it. Unless the democrats are saying that it is a fact that anyone that hates America, her flag and national anthem are without a doubt acting on the democrat party agenda.
