Democratic Group Asks Dept of Justice to Investigate Trump’s Attack on NFL Players
The Wrap ^ | September 26, 2017 | Itay Hod

The Democratic Coalition — the political group that filed an ethics complaint against Donald Trump over the weekend — has filed a second complaint with the Department of Justice Tuesday, TheWrap has learned.

The group is asking the DOJ whether the president violated federal law when he called on NFL owners to fire players who kneel in protest during the national anthem.

“Since there are both ethical and criminal components to President Trump’s actions in this case, we have filed formal complaints with both OGE and DOJ,” Democratic Coalition chairman Jon Cooper told TheWrap. “Considering the serious nature of this matter, it is our expectation that the complaints will receive full and fair consideration by both agencies.”

The group cited a statute which makes it a crime punishable by a fine or up to 15 years in prison or both, for the president, as well as members of Congress and other federal officials, to influence or threaten to influence a private company’s hiring practices “solely on the basis of partisan political affiliation.”

“We respectfully request that the U.S. Department of Justice investigate these potential criminal violations and take all appropriate disciplinary actions against President Trump,” the coalition wrote in its complaint, addressed to Acting Assistant Attorney General Kenneth Blanco of the Justice Department’s Criminal Division.

Trump kicked up a media firestorm Friday when he suggested during a rally in Alabama that coaches should get the “son of a b—” players off the field if they continued to kneel. The comments triggered widespread protests from athletes, the league and coaches, many of whom condemned Trump’s comments.

The president continued his assault on the sports world over the weekend and into Tuesday with a series of tweets slamming NFL’s ratings and encouraging fans to boycott upcoming games.

What’s that old term? Beclowning?

Seems appropriate here.

How is asking for respect for the flag partisan or political?

Are Democrats basically admitting that only Republicans are patriotic?

How dare a sitting President criticize the mighty National Felons League?

Am I living in Bizarro World, or what?

Just yesterday I read where Al Green, Dumocrat - Texas was going to start Impeachment Proceedings against Trump because of his stand against the anti-American NFL.

And I say - Go for it. Do it. Do all this and more.

The United States Code is a consolidation and codification by subject matter of the general and permanent laws of the United States.

Here is U.S. Code 36 regarding the conduct of citizens during the playing of the national anthem.

§301. National anthem
(a) Designation.—The composition consisting of the words and music known as the Star-Spangled Banner is the national anthem.
(b) Conduct During Playing.—During a rendition of the national anthem—
(1) when the flag is displayed—
(A) individuals in uniform should give the military salute at the first note of the anthem and maintain that position until the last note;
(B) members of the Armed Forces and veterans who are present but not in uniform may render the military salute in the manner provided for individuals in uniform; and

(C) all other persons present should face the flag and stand at attention with their right hand over the heart, and men not in uniform, if applicable, should remove their headdress with their right hand and hold it at the left shoulder, the hand being over the heart; and

(2) when the flag is not displayed, all present should face toward the music and act in the same manner they would if the flag were displayed.

(Pub. L. 105–225, Aug. 12, 1998, 112 Stat. 1263; Pub. L. 110–417, [div. A], title V, §595, Oct. 14, 2008, 122 Stat. 4475.)

So it’s a 1st Amendment right to break the law? For NFL thugs apparently yes.

Trump is winning.

His voters agree with him. Liberal losers don’t even watch football.

NFL will lose hundreds of millions from this if it keeps up.

That's funny, I don't recall him mentioning any particular political affiliation during his speech, nor within his tweets. Oh well, it's their dollars wasted, so....

The result of Trump’s statements is that owners CANNOT FIRE kneelers. Before Trump “got involved”, there was no 1st amendment issue. A firing/suspension may have been bad PR, but the league/team owners could very easily convince the player lawyers and union that contracts and league rules allowed it.
Once Trump chimed in, it would appear that they were acting on orders from the government which is a 1st amendment issue (those rules were ignored for the last year, so “why now?”). It’s a messy legal/court battle at best now.

I’d bet Trump understood this. The league (and the NBA) have no out now. Democrats in 2018 (an election year) will be defending “flag haters” and even joining them like Maxine Waters did this week. The media will continue to look foolish and even “anti-American” - not to the liberal base, but to a whole lot of voters the democrats are looking for ways to reach and win back.

So many people are going crazy about the words and their own reading of a statement. But, like so many other times, the statement/tweet has far more implications than anyone first realized. They still think he’s an idiot who says stupid things without thinking. I think it’s happened so many times that “stupid tweets” ended up doing something other than the knee jerk response of his opponents predicted, and his “stupid tweets” were well planned rather than knee jerk reactions to something he heard at 3AM.

I’d be shocked if he didn’t have some idea (instinct if not specific details) that he was putting the NFL and media and democrats in a box with no clean way out when he mentioned firing players. He’s had enough employees to understand the laws around “firing”. And he understands what billionaire business owners think. And I bet he’s not one bit surprised how last weekend played out or what’s coming. “Depends” may want to open a new factory if Trump thought this out before speaking.

Trump is also attacking...

Poor and middle class by trying to take away their Obamacare

Illegal aliens by not allowing them to illegally cross our borders

Illegal alien criminals by seeking them out and trying to deport them

Radical Muslim terrorists by not allowing them to enter the country

Liberal states by trying to take away state and local deductions

Hillary, by taking away what was a certain victory for her

California and NY State and Illinois and Massachusetts and other liberal states, by not allowing them to win the election via their “majority” of votes election

Comey, by firing his ass

Mueller, by Trump not having done the collusion which democrats were/are certain occurred

Racism

Poverty

Riots

Tax cuts for the rich

Companies sending their operations overseas

Uttering anti-socialist statements

“Ousting” Obama

Speaking ill of Hillary and Obama

I’m sure the list is a lot longer, and if democrats are allowed to sue because of a problem that the NFL players caused, then democrats can sue for any problems caused by BLM and Antifa and Hillary and radical Muslim terrorists, and the poor who can’t pay for Obamacare, and liberals not being able to get their way in Washington and all the other states where they don’t control the governments.

Everything is all Trump’s fault.

>>they need to find a cure for Liberalism (more like Leftism).

Thomas Jefferson had the correct prescription for the "cure":

"EDUCATING THE COMMON PEOPLE"

{ because }

"TRUTH IS GREAT AND WILL PREVAIL"

COMMERCE BETWEEN MASTER
(Bread-And-Circuses-R-Us)
AND SLAVE IS
(still)
DESPOTISM.
