I dated a girl who had been a bunny at the Chicago Playboy club. She was ... as you’d expect.

From the article:

“His son, Cooper, remembered his father last night.

“My father lived an exceptional and impactful life as a media and cultural pioneer and leading voice behind some of the most significant cultural movements of our time,” he said in a statement.”

This is an absolutely true statement.

Hefner changed the media and cultural landscape more than any other person on the 20th century.

....”And to show His displeasure, the Lord cursed Hefner with a long life, great wealth, and endless fornication with the hottest babes in the world”....

Of course..SIN pays dividends ‘in this world’ but there is a price, ...I remember seeing Larry Flints House on a lake I was boating on.....stood out from all the rest so of course I asked who lived there...having learned who it was I thought then...and they say sin doesn’t pay. Of course that was before I understood how things work..and don’t work.

I know and have known young Christian men and women who were corrupted and sullied by their personal connections with Hef.

And the Lord will not strive with flesh forever, especially if they are giving Him the middle finger.

Your taking about sex.He would take a pill and make the bunnies line up and expose their breasts, he would choose who he wanted that night.

Well the question of "rich" is actually a question today. Look at what his business was valued at when the magazine was strong and he had co-branded some casino/resort properties. There was a time when he had a real pile of money from Playboy. But not anytime lately. I think that's the interesting story. The guy lived to be 91 and he outlived the success of his business. The deal that sold the Playboy Mansion included a life estate for him, an estate restriction on the new owners that allowed Hefner to live there as long as he wanted. That kind of arrangement is sometimes made in family estate planning to preserve homestead and allow granny to live there, etc., but not common in the situation Hefner was in. I think he may not have had very much money at the end. Look at the situation with Jann Wenner and Rolling Stone - it is going for almost nothing. Roll back to 2005 and Wenner could have sold his interest and cleared $500M.

I look at Vanity Fair and the departure of Graydon Carter and see the desperate stuff like The Hive ("Where Wall Street, Washington and Silicon Valley Meet") and get the impression that being a publisher today is like being a retail chain in the cross hairs of Amazon. Not so good.

I'm thinking that Playboy was not worth so much at the time HH expired.

People here can apparently forgive political fanaticism by our enemies, but not anything to do with sex

As if it were a matter of Hefner's association with a minor foible, like over-indulging in chocolate, or whiskey.

His diabolical, dehumanizing philosophy can claim some responsibility (what share God is now calculating) for the breakdown of the family through egoistic lust, pornography, abortion, and divorce.

Not a bad legacy - that.

That’s because the majority of FReepers believe you’ll go to Hell if you dare have a shot of whiskey and a cigar.

Wrong, there are pobably plenty of us her sick of the bible verse quoting crowd, but do not want to start a jihad.

Given his stated beliefs, I shudder to think of what he experienced the instant after his death. May God have mercy on his soul.

Kind thing to say.

I hated him when I was young because I saw the world change by and through him. He was very influential in the media and movies.

But being older and seeing so many things I suppose I don’t hate him anymore. He did what many wish they could do and with what appears to be many willing to do the same.

I don’t know what God will make of him, but when it comes to God, it’s best not to assume you do know.

He can be quite merciful, and he alone knows the heart.

I honor him for his service in World War II. Beyond that, I will withhold comment.

'Ol Hef served in WWII?? I honestly didn't know that.

Other than that... yes, I will also withhold comment.

My dad had a membership in that 1st Chicago club in it's early 60's prime.

Company paid for it through an expense account, no way he could afford to 'date' one of them on his salary at the time.

Clients coming from out of town literally expected to see people having sex on tables.

They were disappointed. Food and drinks were decent but overpriced and there were much better places to get a steak in Chicago.
