Aedes aegypti- They are the main type of mosquito that spread Zika, dengue, chikungunya, and other viruses.
Because Ae. aegypti mosquitoes live near and prefer to feed on people,
they are more likely to spread these viruses than other types of mosquitoes.

Aedes albopictus- They can live in a broader temperature range and at cooler temperatures than Ae. aegypti.
Because these mosquitoes feed on animals as well as people, they are less likely to spread viruses like Zika, dengue, chikungunya and other viruses.

I just looked up Homemade DDT and found an article about getting it in Pennsylvania. I got all excited until I realized the article was from 1945. Bummer

The US only sprayed DDT all over the populations of Boston and New York and others in the 1950s. Nobody was killed, but DDT is now considered FAR too dangerous for Africa to even consider using. Africa would rather lose hundreds of thousands of lives per year than to do what major American cities did to solve the problem.

Many people don't realize that a mosquito may bite several times, different individuals, and spread a disease.
In the case of Zika, most recently learned is that the virus remains for a period of time in the male testes, and can be sexually transmitted.
