Hi all. Puerto Rico WAS NOT blown back to the middle ages, Matt Drudge.
Most of our buildings are built of reinforced concrete. The rest is claen up, restore services, and let nature heal itself.
There are no riots, no looting, roads are being cleaned. It will take a long time to restore everything, but we should be back real soon. I mean. Old San Juan is still there, the beaches are still there. The Rainforest will restore itself after many years of overgrowth.
We will be back real soon.
JUST SEND ICE! I don't care what anyone says, we need a flotilla of large cargo ships loaded with ICE. We need ICE machines and generators to run it. We need a massive and efficient effort to distribute ICE around the island. With ICE taken care of, we can take care of ourselves.
ICE, ICE, ICE, ICE. Please.

Some of the first photos in from Puerto Rico yesterday showed downed tree trunks already cut into pieces, and people actively using chainsaws. Ahhh...the sweet symphony of chainsaws after a storm.
It was clear in those photos that people were already hard at work clearing the roads, restoring their homes, and getting back to making a living.

We are supposed to vaca in PR on the 30th of this month. Do you think there will be power and the airports open? Should we cancel our trip?May God grant you some wisdom and discernment at some point before you die. Meanwhile, it's all about you.

Glad to hear. Based on photos it looks bad but not “absolutely obliterated” as Donald Trump said. Exaggeration aside I wish you well my FRiend.

One ha she to wonder if some of the hysteria is not aimed at getting the taxpayers of the states to pay for Puerto Ricos bankruptcy.
I think you're right.
It's a vast Puerto Rican conspiracy to get the states to rebuild the island and to pay for the island's debt.
I wouldn't put it over the Puerto Ricans to have built Maria to be such a powerful storm and to send it directly over the island.
And I thought Puerto Ricans were dumb.

He also mentioned generators ...

Let me put it this way: iffy. By next month, maybe. By next week? Airport I’m sure will be open. But power is going to take weeks. Most people here are prepared, though, and can run their businesses on backup generators like I’m doing.

I fear this will result in a mass exodus from the Island.

It’s no wonder there is no looting. Every window, door, or porch I ever saw in PR was already enclosed in iron bars.

I lived in Ramey for 9 months in 1989. Really liked the area.
How did Ramey fare?
Also, Hugo went through Puerto Rico in 1989. In your opinion, which was worse? Hugo or Irma?
Thank you for your AARs.

So happy to hear from you.
Thanks for the report. The cleanup will be exhausting. Mother Nature, after being so bitchy, will come to the rescue and grow the leaves back on the trees, etc.
Getting the fuel/electricity flowing again (cleanup trucks, etc.) will take a bit.

We have been able to contact family in the San Juan area, (everyone OK, thank God) but no such luck with family in Aguadilla (North West tip of the island).
I have been told by folks on site that cell services is out on the west side of the island.

Hopefully the Feds/Military will get the harbor going ASAP. That will help get equipment, food, ICE etc. in AND then cruise ships can come in and tourist dollars can begin flowing to help the economic situation. Cruise season begins November. That is only 6 weeks away. Sheesh!

Whoever wrote this mentioned they needed ice AND GENERATORS for electricity to keep the ice frozen.
I used a generator during hurricane Irma here in Florida to keep my two refrigerators and two freezers running perfectly.
I didn't have enough power to run the A/C in the house but it ran the ceiling fans so we could get some sleep without feeling like we were outside in the woods.
