baseball has the same issue on balls and strikes and plays on the bases.

Thats true but there are so many games - and it seems that most of the times these guys get it right.

The consequence of a blown call is much less on average.

And now they do have instant replay. But baseball is already slow enough the technology would have to speed it up, rather than add more time.

I umpired professional baseball in the minor leagues. They told us we’d make 150-200 calls a night behind the plate and miss maybe 1-3% The issues the players have is consistency. you may have heard some umps have a high strike zone, some call the plate too wide and so forth. When you see umps being yelled out it’s not just the missed call at the wrong time, it’s consistency. pro batters will adjust to an umpire if they know what the umpire will call and the pitchers adjust also.

Lasers and robots would make the game consistent from ump to ump.

All that being said, i favor the human element. LOL
