Carbon dating shows an ancient Indian manuscript has the earliest recorded origin of the zero symbol. The Bakhshali manuscript is now believed to date from the 3rd or 4th Century, making it hundreds of years older than previously thought.

I have a good friend from India... over the years, we'd wax poetically on all sorts of things.
A conversation about maths, led to my mentioning the number of Indian mathematicians at the top level and the rising dominance of India "code monkeys"...
My friend believed that their base language, Sanskrit, was the cause of and key to that prowess. Further, the more exposed the Indian populace is to the world, the more we will see what that means.

I think it has more to do with the Vedic religion. The Vedic thought was facinated with infinity and nothing. The west got stuck one the number one.
