A suspected home intruder was shot and killed Tuesday night (Sept. 12) in LaPlace by the homeowner, according to the St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff's Office. The shooting happened around 8 p.m. in the 3000 block of Cambridge Drive, the sheriff's office reports.
The man, identified by authorities as 27-year-old Kalvin Ferrygood of Garyville, was transported to a New Orleans hospital where he later died, according to the sheriff's office.
The homeowner, a 32-year-old man who has not been identified nor arrested, told authorities that he opened his backdoor after he heard people talking in the backyard. Ferrygood was shot after authorities say he entered the house through the back door.
Sheriff Mike Tregre said a surveillance video of the incident shows the suspect 'bumrushed" the home owner.
"The subject just rushed into him, trying to force his way in," Tregre said. "The home owner opened fire, striking the intruder."
Although multiple shots were fired by the homeowner, Tregre said the suspect was hit once in the abdomen.

“He was a GOOT boy. He never hurt nobody. He din deserve to die.”
Well, hit in the abdomen and still alive. Needed a larger caliber.
Just curious how this is different from "he rushed the homeowner." If you bumrush someone, are you a bum? Or is the person you rush a bum? Can a wealthy man bumrush someone?
I need more sleep.

“Bum Rushing” means a sudden attack with no fighting skill; just a wild charge. I picture someone with arms flailing or held out in front but with no efficient movement. That would be different than, say a bayonet charge with the trained soldier rushing with rifle at the ready.
You forgot, “he was turning his life around.”
