Good point; it was a mistake not to very carefully read the article. It’s an FR tradition not to read first, but I still should have read before posting. The article is not a close match to the headline.

We have all fallen prey to horrible headline writers and their gotcha games. They are paid to get clicks and readers, not to be informative or truthful.

But we as a society also seem to want to have lifetime punishments for anyone accused of that particular crime, no matter the details or the truth of the matter.

(I have a friend of a friend who did 4 years because his camera was taken by a buddy, without his knowledge or consent, used to record a sex act, the girl turned out to be underage, the buddy was not charged by the DA (the girl was not a helpful victim or witness), but the camera collected as evidence gave the owner a lifetime registry for child porn, plus 4 years of his life. We are far too eager to punish someone, anyone, whenever we see the words "child" and "sex" in the same sentence.)
