We all knew NBC would win last night but how many of you had the Chiefs? (And be honest, commenters.)
The 2017 NFL Kickoff Game slipped 12 percent versus 2016s version, putting up a 14.6 rating/25 share. Last years a rematch of Super Bowl 50 was already down 7 percentage points when compared with its own predecessor.
The 2016 season-opener (a 16.5 overnight rating) featured a rematch from the prior years big game. And it was a close contest, as the defending champion Denver Broncos edged the opposition Carolina Panthers by just one point. This time around, the reigning champ Pats suffered a surprise loss at home, 42-27.
Here are the particulars from Thursday: NBC was a clear No. 1 among adults 18-49, with the 14.6 more than doubling the primetime averages for the other three Big 4 broadcast networks combined. Additionally, that gaudy Nielsen number is the best rating for any network telecast since June 12.
And here are the Top 10 local markets last night the biggest ones should come as no surprise, given the matchup: 1. Providence 35.6/55 2. Kansas City 35.5/55 3, Boston 35.0/59 4. Denver 20.6/38 5. New Orleans 20.4/29 6. Norfolk 18.9/31 7. Richmond 18.9/30 8. Buffalo 17.7/30 9. Milwaukee 17.2/28 10. Seattle 17.1/32
Final viewership numbers should be available later on Friday.
I like that.
Not only did they do nothing to stop it but Roger Goodell endorsed it. I'm done with the NFL. Skipped it last year and didn't miss it at all.
This is what is funny about the media. Their job is not to report information. Their job is to get eyeballs watching the commercials.
They are not stupid. The question is begged every time the issue comes up - for anyone with an average IQ and understanding of the game. They refuse to address it because it would “deflate” the story way too fast (see what I did there? :-p)
This is true of the political news as well. When, after reading or watching a news story and you have more questions than when the story started, that is intentional. This is why I so like getting my news off the internet. There are so many souces with so many different viewpoints that the truth percolates to the top.
Also, don’t both teams play with the same ball at different times?
Trump took office Jan 20. Super Bowl 2 weeks later. He could have advocated that no one tune in. Would have missed a great game. The businessman doesn’t do that. The NFL is doing nothing for him so he should do what he does best and that is fight back against his enemies.
Amen.
F—— NBC. They made a big deal of Chief’s P.o.S. cornerback sitting during the anthem, pointing the cameras at him and two different commentators making comments about it. NBC could have EASILY just not this anti-American F-head, and concentrated exclusively on the 99.9% of the patriotic players.
Mrs. Catnipman walked out and refused to watch the game right then and there.
I think we will continue to see this downward trend.
Half of the viewing audience wiped out in Texas and everyone else is glued to the Weather Channel. I would like to think that it had something to do with sitters, but there are other things going on right now...
We cut our Comcast cable after two price increases put our bill over $255/month.
Now, we use Sling and Amazon Fire TV with a small monthly donation to CBS and PBS. We are saving over $100/month.
We gave up pro BLM football when the no talent Colon did his thing. We had been Forty Niner fans since 1971. Now we are Former Niner Fans.
ABCNNBCBS and Faux because of cable cutters like you and us, are losing viewers faster than CNN can come out with Fake News about president Trump.
Without NFL and a lot of the other bs on tv, we are reading more and doing combo honey do projects since we have more free time.
I use Kindle. My wife gets about 6-8 books a week at our local library.
The decline is multi-factorial. Thuggish players, poor reffing, 3 1/2 hours to watch 11 minutes of play, and of course the politics. As a physician I am very bothered by the concussion issue and the league’s response to it. This was a major factor for me.
Pandering to the kneelers has consequences.
Glad I didn’t watch the game.
(former NFL fan says bye bye lefties...)

BOL!.. Before we cut our cable, my wife kept a log of what we watched on tv. 0 NBC shows, 1 ABC (Kelly and ?), 5 CBS shows and the rest were Amazon Prime Acorn and other choices. We still are SF Giant fans and watch them.
Two weeks after we cut the cable, I participated in a Nielsen survey. About 30 seconds into the survey, I realized that I was talking to someone probably from India, and she was only interested in people 19-49. I stopped the interview and asked for her supervisor.
He came on with no accent. I asked him why in the hell was I being interviewed/polled if they were only interested in the 19-49 age group. I told him that they and the tv people were running a con game to sell prime time ads to suckers.
He asked what I meant by that. I asked him, how many of his target tv audience idiots still lived at home, were probably unemployed and with minimal disposable $’s and a terrible credit rating.
So, they didn’t want to interview someone like us as we are the tip of a huge iceberg of non cable and non air tv watchers.

Demographic screening has always gone on in surveys and polls-——what’s the big deal?

Goodell, Kaepernick and ESPN are to the NFL what Barrack Obama was to the Democratic Party!
We all should contribute to a high statue of Barrack Obama constructed at the highest point on Alcatraz so that all SFO Liberals could wake up around noon each day, roll over and be able to see the single biggest destructor of the Democratic Party that ever lived.
If the NFL coaches and owners had any guts they would tell those taking knees and sitting down, if you do that, you sit out the whole season.
And in any other profession, if you don’t work, you don’t get paid.
NFL and ESPN = left wing thugs.
Thanks to #22 Peters seated while the national anthem was played.
That is a pretty bad drop for the NFL.
They need to wake up it it gets worse.
