Curious...

Have you seen any serious societal effects there as a result of the legalization of pot? Have you noticed increased usage of pot and other drugs? Any impact from that?

My Spanish isn’t good enough to keep up with societal issues and intend on keeping it that way. I have enough problems dealing with English speaking liberals, no need to add another country to the mix.
We live in a resort area and all of the layabouts we see passed out appear to be alcoholics, not druggies. Our proximity to Africa makes it a gateway for drug smugglers so I do read about large seizures of cocaine, heroin and hashish but I don’t know if that is for locals or destined for other parts of Europe.

Portugal decriminalized drug use years ago when they had a terrible junkie issue. All the money used on incarceration went to treatment instead for those that wanted it. They now have a fraction of the usage. Sometimes things can be counterintuitive.

Youth unemployment hovers around 40%(!). Of course that could be purely coincidental.
