Another cop was placed on administrative leave with pay in the handcuffing of a Utah hospital nurse who refused to take blood from an unconscious patient.

There was NO REASON to take blood from this man. He was a victim in the accident, he was not suspected of any crime. Had there been a reason to take his blood a warrant could have easily been obtained. I don’t know what was wrong with these cops, it seems like either they were drunk with power or completely confused, neither of which are qualities one seeks in a LEO.
It seems like if the cop had any guts at all he would have just walked in and drawn the blood.
Maybe he didn’t do it because that might have broken even more laws. He wanted the nurse to break the law.
Cant for the life of me figure why they wanted his blood so badly.

A blind man can see what is going on here. The cops wanted that blood for some reason and reason was not a good one. Don’t know what they are trying to cover for or their angle is but they were clearly up to something so much they hung themselves in the process of doing it.
I hope they do sue the officer personally. I know the city has the deep pockets, but most of the citizens who would have their taxes used to pay this are not in agreement with what was done.
Further that the patient was not only unconscious, but burned, and therefore at very high risk of infection, and obviously the police officer is not trained in infection control the way a medical professional is, and should be no where near that patient.
He just wanted to be able to ho home at the end of his shift without getting indicted.
“The chase by the cops resulted in the two deaths. They wanted blood from the victim in hopes they could find culpability(drugs, alcohol) Makes your blood boil doesnt it.
So.......arrest the nurse. Idiotic.”
Yes but this was not the person they were chasing. This person was either hit by the person they were chasing or the cops. This victim had nothing to do with the police chase only that he was driving his car at the wrong place and time. So what were these officers trying to cover up with his blood? They just stepped in it big time.
So a cop can come into a hospital and draw blood??
> IMO, the doctor in charge should have stepped up as well... <
That’s a very good point, and one I have not seen brought up before. Where the heck were the doctors?
> It seems like if the cop had any guts at all he would have just walked in and drawn the blood. Nobody would have physically stopped him. <
The hospital’s security is the University of Utah’s campus police. In a sane world, the campus police would have stepped in an arrested him. For trespass, at a minimum.
They should be in the lockup for their conspiracy to commit Felony Kidnapping.
If they they felt they might get blamed for taking the pursuit to the point it caused a major collision with injuries, they might be looking for dirt on anyone involved.
You are absolutely correct. The nurse should not have had to stand up against them alone.
The cops are so typical. Instead if defusing a situation they usually escalate it. There terms are absolute and not negotiable even when they should be.
Armed abduction can be a reason for armed and lethal resistance. I don’t care if the abductors wear blue. Too bad no one (including me) have or had the balls to resist. :(
So what do you think their motive was in pushing this so hard?
Why was it so important to them to get blood from a burn victim that is unconscious and was in fact an injured party who was run into? He was an innocent who was run into by the person they were chasing.
I can’t do anything about all this but I sure would like to know what the cops were up to. This is much like the guy that the SLC cops shot in the Walmart parking lot who had in fact done nothing wrong.
From what I could tell the doctors were cowering.
So he should not have been stupid and just picked up his little ple kit and gone home. The cops were up to no good here.
My opinion is that the police were hoping to immunize themselves from a lawsuit by painting the innocent truck driver as a drug abuser so that he would not be able to sue them for his injuries resulting fro the police chase. Money talks and bullshit walks, this was a police department CYA and they need to be punished.
The PD will pay just to get rid of the adverse publicity and the two police officers will either be fired on placed out of the public eye for a long time I suspect.
**********************************
Nope, the public wants their heads, and the elected officials will give it to them. Those cops are going to jail.
I usually support police. Not this time. If he isn’t fired, I will lose all respect for the SLCPD.
Stuff like this is really bad for their image and public opinion. It fuels the folks that like to hold protest. This time, I would be joining them..
If I were an SLC Officer, I would insist that if I ever needed to be taken to a hospital, that they take me to St Marks....
I hate to say this, and please don’t take this wrong, but I’m glad the Nurse was white.
