The 10 Most Meaningful Games of Week 1 [College Football]
Sports Illustrated ^ | August 30, 2017 | Chris Johnson

By the time the College Football Playoff selection committee gets ready to reveal the final four in early December, the opening week of the season will have faded into the rearview. Teams that have plowed through their conference schedules can make a strong final impression by winning their league title games, while at the same time hoping other contenders suffer a late L. But the matchups that take place early in the season can carry just as much weight in the eyes of the committee. Whether it’s two blue bloods squaring off in an NFL dome or a fringe top-10 team welcoming a frisky mid-major to campus, season openers can be the difference between a squad earning a ticket to a national semifinals or settling for a New Year’s Six Bowl with no path to the title game. What you’ll spend hours watching this weekend, in other words, matters a lot.

Looking forward to the Notre Dame game as our kid is a freshman in the marching band. Look for a mellophone player with long red hair

Here’s one for you ‘Bama fans:

Two drunks in a bar, wearing their school’s sweat shirts...

One to the other: “What does that A U B U R N on your shirt mean??”
The other: “Alabama Usually Beats Us Red Necks...”
He then asks, “What does that U T mean on your shirt???”
The first guy says, “Us Too...”

Can FSU give Alabama its SECOND STRAIGHT LOSS at the hands of an ACC team?

App State took Tennessee to OT last year for the SEC opener - would love to see them beat the Bulldogs Saturday evening.

“There are a lot of things you can learn out on a football field. You learn how to take a good licking and not cry about it, and you learn how to hand one out and not go around bragging about it.”

Red Grange

Or, University of Texas. (TU, or Texas University, to us Aggies.)

I’ll grant you the OSU-IU mismatch and tell you the OKST-TU should be entertaining for at least the first half. OKST will feature a Heisman potential QB and a great receiver corps to generate a lot of points.

I agree with you but at least college coaches tend to be conservative. Even the Black ones.

Cowboys will be an offensive machine this year. The questions, as it is so often under Gundy, is what kind of defense will they offer. They will have to mount some sort of consistent defense to earn a top 4 ranking.

We’ll see. Coach Cliche needs to shut up & beat the team’s we’re supposed to beat. Bama & FSU should be fun to watch.

How many college players/coaches will take a knee for the anthem? (The only sports I can enjoy watching are college football, basketball and some olympics.)

So what is the difference between pro and college football as regards that statement. When was the last time Red Grange was relevant, he played in the 20s for God sake. Are you boycotting the NFL?

When they play Texas Tech, I seriously think one of those two teams could score 100 points.
