My memories are similar. Big difference now because children are no longer taught at home to respect authority or to show any sort of respect, for that matter.
Back in the day, they would usually have the backing of the school and the parents, as well. Also, the better students in class would back up the teacher's word against the hooligan's version.
Nowadays, that's all flipped, and the school rarely backs the teacher, the parents think little Johnny, Juan, or De'Andre are perfect little angels, and would never be like that in class, and the teacher must have dissed them somehow, and the good students are much less likely to speak up and be accused of being a "snitch."
