I was pretty sure there was a difference. But then thought maybe it was like "Bison" and "Buffalo", where it's common place to refer to American Bison as "Buffalo", even though they are not. Buffalo, IIRC, are only found in Africa, and are actually called "Water Buffalo". I think I got that right? Too lazy to check right now.

I don’t really know the exact difference but I think you’ve gotcher
Cape Buffler in Africa and yer Water Buffler in Asia.

In Americer ya gotcher real buffler which is actually a Bison.
But if you get too close to one you’ll know it’s real! ;^)

"True" buffalo live in both Africa and Asia.

The Asian buffalo are called "water buffalo." They live both in the wild and as domesticated beasts of burden.

The African buffalo is called the "cape buffalo." It cannot be domesticated and is one of the most dangerous animals in Africa.
