When Americans think of Communism in Eastern Europe, they imagine travel restrictions, bleak landscapes of gray concrete, miserable men and women languishing in long lines to shop in empty markets and security services snooping on the private lives of citizens. While much of this was true, our collective stereotype of Communist life does not tell the whole story.
Some might remember that Eastern bloc women enjoyed many rights and privileges unknown in liberal democracies at the time, including major state investments in their education and training, their full incorporation into the labor force, generous maternity leave allowances and guaranteed free child care. But theres one advantage that has received little attention: Women under Communism enjoyed more sexual pleasure.
A comparative sociological study of East and West Germans conducted after reunification in 1990 found that Eastern women had twice as many orgasms as Western women. Researchers marveled at this disparity in reported sexual satisfaction, especially since East German women suffered from the notorious double burden of formal employment and housework. In contrast, postwar West German women had stayed home and enjoyed all the labor-saving devices produced by the roaring capitalist economy. But they had less sex, and less satisfying sex, than women who had to line up for toilet paper.

What, no mention of homos having better sex? I am appalled.
Fantastic article. Nothing makes a woman hotter than having to stand in line for 6 hours to get week-old bread and some unidentifiable paste to spread over it.
The liberal craves brutal oppression
Every liberal is a violent totalitarian thug..
Probably because sex was the only thing remotely resembling entertainment in the Eastern Bloc, you morons.
More amazing investigative journalism from the New York Slimes,............................. LOL, William Duranty Lives!
Well, that settles it. I’m sold!
Their idiocy amazes.
Each and every day.
It’s common sense, actually. They were so poor all they could do was drink alcohol and do you know what.
Probably because sex was the only thing remotely resembling entertainment in the Eastern Bloc, you morons.
Exactly. Looong cold winter and no money for shopping trips to Paris, etc.
I cannot believe that a serious journal of record can write and publish this utter tripe.
I think there is a better explanation for why women in modern Germany can't enjoy sex. No men.
And your sex? Satisfactory? Ja!!! Gut...the state is pleased.

What if they were able to dig up a few of the East German women who were on the Olympic teams of the 1970s and early ‘80s and were likely on regular diets of steroids. I remember as a kid watching them on TV and even noticing at my young age then that they looked like men. I wonder what kind of sex lives those women had back then, eh?
no kidding! only 1 channel on the TV if at all.
It may be that eastern women faked more orgasms than western women.
Indeed on surveys for sure.
What these sort of articles conveniently ignore is that in those socialist countries, before any investment into education past primary education, strict testing was implemented, and only the "cream of the crop" actually got those investments, and what the parents or children wanted really had little or no consideration into the direction that child would have later in life. Of course, that wasn't the case for the politically protected, but there was no such thing as "taking a year off of school to find yourself."
Sort of like how the NY Slimes ignored Stalin's brutal repression and starvation of the Ukraine while promoting what a great place it was.
Same 5#it, different decade from the Slimes.

I’m married to a Prussian, she’s Hot Hot Hot! I don’t think it has to do anything with the eastern part of Germany. When you’re Hot you’re Hot.
