Paul Ellis took sweets and condoms with him to meet the child but was instead greeted by paedophile-hunters Dark Justice
A paedophile was caught by online vigilantes when he drove 200 miles thinking he was meeting a young girl for sex.
Paul Ellis set off from his home in Denbigh to drive to Newcastle, taking sweets and crisps to ply his intended 13-year-old victim with.
But when he arrived, he quickly realised there was no girl. Instead he was met by members of the group Dark Justice, who go online to find people who use the internet to prey on children.
The group approached Ellis, 58, and filmed him as they grilled him about why he had travelled to the city.
Ellis sat passively throughout the interrogation, in which Dark Justice members warned him that police were on their way to arrest him.
The Dark Justice member assured him there would be no hostility or violence so you can stay calm, before asking Ellis you knew this person was under-age, you came here to do what?
Ellis responded: To meet her.
Dark Justice: To meet her and have sex?
Ellis: Yes.
Dark Justice: And to watch child porn on your iPad?
Ellis: Yes.
The group told Ellis, of Rhyl Road in Denbigh, that it knew he had been talking to the girl since August 2016.
Ellis, who had brought condoms with him, clutched his packet of cigarettes, and was told if you smoke I suggest now is the time to have a cigarette mate.
Within minutes, a police officer arrived and, after Dark Justice explained to them who Ellis was and why he was in Newcastle, the officer arrested Ellis and led him away in handcuffs.
Ellis, who had been working in a chip shop, was jailed at Mold Crown Court on Thursday for other offences.
At the time he was snared on Tyneside, he was on bail for talking to under-aged boys and girls on the internet.
His Denbigh home had been raided in 2015 and police found a large number of graphic sexual chats with children, some as young as 12.
In those cases, unlike his Newcastle crime, the children did actually exist, the Daily Post reports.
Extensive police enquiries had been carried out, and in September last year Ellis pleaded not guilty.
He was supposed to be tried in February - two months before he travelled to Newcastle hoping to meet a 13-year-old - but that case was adjourned.
His defending barrister Simon Mintz told the court Ellis knew he had a problem, that what he had done was wrong, and that he needed help.
He admitted five charges of attempting to arrange a child sex offence over the internet in 2015, with 11 other similar offences committed between January and October last year.
Ellis also admitted that he had planned to incite a child into sexual activity between August last year and April this year, when he was arrested in Newcastle.
Judge Rhys Rowlands told Ellis he had engaged in lurid, sexual conversations with children, adding: You continued with what was totally depraved behaviour, even after you had been arrested and appeared in court.
You travelled up there in the belief that you were going to meet up with and have sex with a 13-year-old girl.
He was jailed for four years and ordered to sign the sex offences register for life.
He will be sentenced for the Newcastle offence on Monday by a court in the North East.
That was a TV show or Documentary some time back,
Ten year’s ago.
So...who’s going to reimburse him for the gas he wasted?
He got away easy.
excellent point
Dark Justice. The best television program ever. It was on around 10 or 11 Friday nights. Great show.
Exactly. No victim=no crime.
Back in the 90's people used to joke that on the internet, the men were men, the women were men and the little girls were FBI agents.
I want to work for Dark Justice!!!

Years ago, I hired a handyman to do yardwork. We got to talking, and he explained that he wanted to be a cop, and had the attitude but his eyesight was very bad. So he joined an abused dog rescue. Not the legal kind. An underground one. He’d rescue the drug dealer dogs, and etc. This guy had a lot of scars, from knifes, dogs, and bullets. Was a pretty interesting guy. Seems he’d fit right into this Dark Justice group..
Paedophile gangs will lure a boy on line with the photo/pretense of being a sweet girl of similar age looking for a friendly chat. The two will then exchange pleasantries and exchange confidences. Then the grift will advance to salacious photos. Of course, the perpetrators will have a library of images they could use.
The “sweet girl” will eventually and emphatically demand that the “target” get another sibling involved in the picture taking. If the “target” doesn’t comply embarrassing pictures will be released to his family and friends.
Upon obtaining the photos the grifter/paedophiles will sell the pics.
Crews of these people are prevalent throughout the world, but especially in the Asian/pagan loving nations.
No doubt the dude is a creep. He violated the prime directive. When a stranger arranges to meet you, for nefarious activities, DON'T GO. He is an idiot.
Let me see. A “young girl” advertises on line that she was trying to meet an older man for sex. Is it a police sting? Or is it a paedophile’s dream come true? Hmmm that’s going to take a lot of thought - not. These guys are really morons
Pedophiles cannot be cured and never show remorse. The best thing for them is incarceration or incineration.
“That was a TV show or Documentary some time back,”
Yep, ABC Dateline series hosted by Chris Hansen. It was called “To Catch A Predator” and essentially sounds exactly like what Dark Justice was doing here.
My question as well. But...
1. It's the UK.
2. Recently, laws have been written/rewritten to make this type of soliciting illegal. Real victim or not.
Glad someone does it but it would be a dispiriting way to spend one’s days & nights.
Need to keep a shower close by.
