I admire what she is doing, and support her efforts to shed sunlight on Scientology.

That being said....giving the Federal Government broader powers to investigate churches and religious organizations?

umm........no.

I would hardly call Scientology a religious organization, no matter what they claim, just a bunch of nutballs. And who said anything about giving the government broader powers. Sounds to me there is evidence of wide spread child abuse. What more power would they need?

Good for Leah. Brave woman. I will have to watch the series now. Forgot how hot she was too....

How about the bribery/extortion of a sitting president, then Bill Clinton?

It was under him that they got their religious tax status.

IIRC, the story was that John Travolta said that the Scientology-backed movie, "Primary Colors", would go easy on Clinton, if he pushed for their "religion" status.

FWIW, about the only thing recent German governments have done that's a positive is to regard Scientology as a cult.

Yes, any “church” that breaks the law merits a close look by the FBI. Churches are not exempt from criminal laws and should not be allowed to break our laws in the name of religious freedom. Those “churches” that defraud and enslave their members/victims, are not churches they are criminal organizations.

The problem is that Scientology is not a religion, it is much closer to organized crime, imo.
