how did a man end up nailed to a tree in the Bosque? It's a mystery police are still working to solve. But for the first time, video has revealed what police discovered that day in May and what the victim said.
This case just keeps getting more complicated. In an interview with police, the man nailed to the tree said the Ku Klux Klan was after him. He also told police that it's not the first time he's been attacked.
The call came in from a city employee who was picking up trash in the Bosque. The video shows the Albuquerque city truck parked nearby. Further down, there's the man nailed to the tree. It's clear he's in a lot of pain.
An officer repeatedly asked for his name but he didn't answer. They waited for paramedics to arrive. The victim's hands were above his head nailed to the tree. He mumbles something about papers.
Once paramedics got there, the officer looked around and said he didn't see any immediate danger in the area. Paramedics worked to get the man down.
Paramedics got him off the tree, and he managed to walk to the ambulance. But things get more bizarre when police question him at the hospital.
"Two people grabbed me and they pulled me to the trees," he said in Spanish. "They said they were going to kill me."
He answered most of the questions in Spanish.
"They took away a lot of papers. All the papers from the court they took," he said. "… They had guns. One said to the other "kill him already" and the other said 'No. We've got to do it away from here.'"
The victim told police it's the third time they've attacked him.
"They identified themselves as KKK," he said in Spanish. Then in English, he said, "Jesus gave me another chance to live."
APD said this is still an active and open investigation. They just re-interviewed the victim and continue to work on this case. So far, no one has been charged.

This whole story stinks worse than a bait-cutter’s boot.
It said he answered “mostly in Spanish.” It implies that he used English to some extent.
