Fighting CO2 seems to be all the rage amongst intellectuals in liberals. Literally billions of dollars have been spent on ugly wind turbines and solar panels throughout USA.
I looked up the cost for a commercial wind turbine and it costs about four million dollars!
It seems to me that the cheapest and scenic way to fight CO2 would be spend the the money on planting trees everywhere. Does anyone know roughly how many trees could be planted for $4000000? And how much CO2 would those trees prevent compared to a single wind turbine?
Is anyone here good with statistics and calculating this type of thing?
Remember GIGO: garbage in, garbage out. Something does not seem right with those numbers. In any case, CO2 is a harmless non-toxic gas. It is natural and not a pollutant.
One thing rarely considered is the amount of copper that goes into a wind turbine. Probably over a thousand miles of copper wire, who knows how many pounds of copper. A half ton? One ton?
Copper mining is not a "clean" environmentally friendly endeavor. Nor is the smelting of ore and manufacture of wire. There are many deadly toxic byproducts of copper mining. Copper is essential to modern society but why mine it needlessly to appease the Global Warming Gods?
There is no global warming, just variable weather patterns and sun spot activity.
CO2 is not a harmless, non toxic gas. It can kill you. Best way to find out, like I did....
put dry ice in a freezer chest that opens from the top. Put your head in and take a breath. It’s like getting hit in the face with a brick. You immediately know you are not breathing oxygen.
Scouts Out! Cavalry Ho!
There’s no money to be made in planting trees by the ‘rat corporate friends who get big government grants to make panels and windmills - a bunch of Boy Scouts can get the job done for next to nothing - and earn merit badges while getting it done.....
I’ve read that a windmill will not produce enough energy to replace the energy to build it. This tells me the carbon usage is in the negative factor even before it’s installed.
The pollution created in building the Tesla batteries is the same as a gas powered car used for 8 years and the batteries need replaced every 3 years. Another negative factor not even including the coal burnt to generate the electricity it uses.
Well said, you beat me to it.
CO2 is plant food.
No need to fight it.
Nitrogen will have the exact same effect. Nitrogen is also almost 80% of the air you breathe. But it is not poisonous. If either nitrogen or carbon dioxide displaces all the oxygen, we will die from suffocation.
A gas like cyanide gas or chlorine gas is indeed poisonous. If you get a good whiff of either you would be dead. This is caused by the way these gases bind and disrupt our body's internal chemistry, something that neither CO2 or nitrogen do.
[[It seems to me that the cheapest and scenic way to fight CO2 would be spend the the money on planting trees everywhere.]]
There is absolutely no need to fight it- our atmosphere has just 0.00136% CO2 in it due to man- that’s it- That’s all the CO2 we’ve produced- 0.00136% of the atmosphere is NOT changing the global climate- no way- no how- it’s impossible-
And here’s another fact- CO2 rises ALWAYS come 800 years AFTER temperatures rise- proving that CO2 is NOT driving temperature changes- We have reams of ice core samples proving this- AND we have the last 20 years to corroborate this fact- CO2 rose, but temps did not- they staid the same- there’s no connection between the two other than rising temperatures might cause rising CO2 levels 100’s of years later-
There’s absolutely no need to do anything about CO2- CO2 levels were at 1200 parts per million back in the day- the earth didn’t self combust- species flourished just fine- Everything was fine- CO2 levels always fluctuate- always have, always will- our insignificant contribution is so infinitesimally small compared to natural sources that it’s beyond ridiculous to think man is causing climate change-

Lol, that’s pretty dumb!
It is assumed that power generated is watt/hours in the number.
The power produced by this particular system has been recorded so it is set in the record. At $.36/kw the system has produced $33,588.00 worth of electricity. The CO2 and the number of trees saved is per Enphase.
Numbers are extrapolated from the Enphase Enlighten web monitoring site for a 10kW system. They say that 65.5 tons of CO2 have been saved and 1 ton of CO2 equals about 24 trees. Multiply that by 100,000 for a 1 megawatt wind turbine. Does seem high to me also.
I have read that the energy needed to manufacture and install a large turbine is equal to the output of that turbine for 10 years - at which time it will need a major overhaul or replacement.
Oops that is multiply times 100 so we have 155,000 trees.
Consider also there are thousands of 10kW PV systems all over the US.
There is that other little thing ... When plants (trees) digest CO2 they release O2!!!!
